These are private-pay and not covered by AHS or Alberta Blue Cross. Many extended health plans cover part of the cost.

Starting or switching an insulin pump
Through our self-referred pump program, certain patients with Type 1 diabetes can book a pump consult themselves — from anywhere in Alberta — to start a pump or switch to a new pump system. Your first consult is a phone call with our nurse practitioner and pump trainer.
For eligible Albertans with Type 1, your pump and supplies are 100% covered. Most patients are on a pump in under two months. Pump starts are in person in Edmonton.

A referral is required for:
- Type 2 diabetes and all other types
- Wound care — diabetic foot ulcers and any open wound below the knee
- Endocrinology — thyroid and other hormone conditions
- Type 1 diabetes care not related to starting or switching a pump
These services are covered by AHS. Once we receive the referral, we'll call you to schedule.

Most everyday foot problems don't need one.
Our certified foot care nurses treat the most common reasons people look for a podiatrist — with no referral and no surgery. If your foot needs a specialist's care, we'll tell you.
